NEW ZEALAND LOVES RACING
ps|studio has been connected with the racing community since landing here in February 2008. The passion of the sport is evident in many areas of art and design, from logo production to illustrated posters to promote racing events.
EQUINE ILLUSTRATION
Thursday, 11 June 2009
The Waipa Racing Club here in Te Awamutu have been using illustrated posters to promote their major racing events which is truly a great thing. A ladies day poster, being the first design I created for the club garnered some great response from the community and now with the rural community invited to the next event coming up, ‘Farmers Day’ is currently being promoted around the Waikato region.
Next up is the Te Awamutu Cup day. Currently on the drawing board and will be ready within a week to promote their next big race day.
Doriemus Lodge is a stud farm here in the Waikato and they were looking for a logo to adorn their floats, business cards, letterheads... and they were looking to illustration as a solution for their brand. The job came through local sign makers Alexandra Images.
The horse painting is based on one of their favourite horses ‘Boomrock’ and although I was given reference various changes were necessary to created the finished look. Changing the leg formation and adding their new colours and logo to the jockey and saddle cloth.
Sanders Racing. Te Awamutu’s local racing heroes have won the Auckland Cup two years in a row with Prize Lady. A commemorative poster was commissioned by the WRC to present prints of the artwork to the World Class trainers, Greame and Mark Sanders, Jockey Mark Sweeney and also the owner of the great horse.
It was an honour to create this artwork for them and I know that they are all incredibly humbled by their two wins in a row, but I guess that is where a lot of hard work, dedication, determination and true love of the sport really comes in. An inspiration to many, the Sanders Family have become household names within the NZ racing community, and beyond...
